You may remember when we blogged about the amazing National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) “Indian Weddings”-theme wedding trends luncheon awhile back. Well this year’s annual wedding trends event promises to be even more spectacular, if that’s possible. First of all, the Thurs., April 21 “Sky’s the Limit”-theme bash is not going to be a luncheon at all, but a seriously delish dinner, starting with cocktails and hors d’oeuvre at the wonderful 1940 Air Terminal Museum. Next, guests will jet over to the museum hangar, which will be totally transformed for the occasion by members of NACE Houston—the nation’s largest NACE chapter, which counts Houston’s top wedding experts among its members. It also counts our very own Radhika Day, publisher of Weddings in Houston as one of its longest-serving members. And proudly so.

Naturally, we’ll be there, checking out the latest, greatest trends in wedding design, décor, catering and production from Houston’s finest wedding pros. And we’d love for you to join us. While the NACE wedding trends event is typically geared toward wedding professionals, this year’s dinner is open to brides, too. Buy your tickets, register for this year’s giveaway and you may just win yourself a luxurious Dominican Republic honeymoon package (there’s a reason they call it Paradisus Resort).

For more details or to register for the April 21 “Sky’s the Limit” even, visit WT2011 or NACE Houston. We’re ready for takeoff. How ’bout you?

To Do This Week: Mia Bridal Couture’s Incredible Designer Sample Sale

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Kenneth PoolLiancarlo

Tiny tubes of moisturizer, itsy bitsy fragrance vials, bite-size bits of anything yummy—we love us some samples. Especially when the sample in question is a designer wedding gown. How about more than 100 designer gowns? From top bridal design houses like Amsale, Rivini, Kenneth Pool, Liancarlo and more?? That’s what you’ll find when Mia Bridal Couture hosts its sensational off-the-rack sample sale this Sunday from noon-4 p.m. Please note that dresses pictured above represent designers that will be featured at the sale, but not the exact gowns that will be featured.

No appointments, early arrival is strongly encouraged, here’s what to expect: Mia has five dressing rooms, so the salon will allow five brides (with an entourage of up to three guests each) into the store at a time. During your time in the store you can choose four dresses to try on. Once you decide on a dress, a very helpful and gracious Mia staffer will have you pay for your dress in full (at a discount of 50-75% off!!) hand you a list of alteration and cleaning specialists, and send you on your soon-to-be-married way.

A few tips when buying your wedding dress off the rack, courtesy of Mia’s Lisa Toenjes:

  • If a dress is too small, you can have your seamstress change it to a lace-up.
  • A dress can be taken in approximately three sizes before you lose the look of the dress.
  • Remember to bring a strapless bra, your favorite heels (or shoes of the same heel height you plan to wear for your wedding), your friends, a camera and lots of excitement!

Good luck, gown shoppers. And remember, patience and manners, girls. It’s just plain good wedding karma!

Did The Amazing Ring Race ROCK, Or What?

Art Carved Diamond Engagement Ring

…especially for the adorable couple who won that truly spectacular $15,000 Art Carved diamond ring. As for the rest of us, the Amazing Ring Race was one heck of a good time (despite the winter chill…brrr!). Thanks so much to Thomas Markle Jewelers for making this awesome event happen last Saturday, and for bringing all those sweet, enthusiastic and VERY DETERMINED Houston brides and grooms out to The Woodlands for so much fun. We’re thrilled to have been a part of it.

Check out all the excitement, anticipation and race-day spirit, perfectly captured in this cute KPRC Local 2 clip!

Weddings in Houston Logo

It’s here! It’s finally here! We’re so excited to announce today’s launch of the new Weddings in Houston web site. As we promised, everything you love about the old site–Houston’s top wedding vendors, 360-degree virtual tours of Houston’s finest wedding venues, inspiring Houston Real Weddings, Houston’s hottest bridal and wedding events, in-depth articles and advice on just about any wedding topic you can imagine–remains. It’s all just a whole lot fresher, more convenient and easier to use.

Plus, we’ve added some awesome extras, including social media buttons that allow you to share info with friends at a click. Just booked your wedding at one of our featured hotels? Click the handy Facebook button on the property’s Weddings in Houston vendor page and update your friends. Found a fabulous centerpiece idea in one of our articles? Instantly e-mail it to your Houston wedding planner or floral designer. And about those articles–now you can search for them by topic. Just type a keyword or two into our article search, and you’re off and running.

You’ll also find more of the good stuff–more Houston wedding vendor categories, more photo galleries, more videos. We’re a whole lot faster, too.

See what we mean? It’s your beloved Weddings in Houston, only better.

Bella Bridesmaid Trunk ShowBella Bridesmaid TrunkShow

A combination trunk show AND open house? We think we’re in heaven! Bella Bridesmaid is inviting Houston brides-to-be, and their best gals, to sip champagne, nibble hors d’oeuvre and marvel at the loveliness of the LulaKate bridal collection this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The Charleston, S.C.-based design house, well known for its ready-to-wear and vibrant bridesmaid dresses, launched an “alternative bridal” line earlier this year–think clean lines, crisp shantung, not to mention very nice prices–and we are loving it. Loving Bella Bridesmaid, too, who showed such sweet, fun frocks at our January I Do! Bridal Soiree at The Houstonian. Don’t you think?

Call 713.528.2778 to let them know you’re coming, would you? And bring a friend…or two!

Are You Ready for the New Weddings in Houston?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

…because we’re almost ready for you!! We’re adding the final fabulous touches, banishing the last few bugs and getting everything set for the unveiling of the gorgeous new Weddings in Houston website. And don’t worry, unlike some recent “upgrades” to websites you know and love (hint, hint, Facebook!), we’re not changing any of the features that make Weddings in Houston the most visited, most used, most LOVED wedding site in Houston (and, incidentally, well beyond). We’re just making everything better and easier to use. It’s like Weddings in Houston after a weekend at the spa: a little fresher, a little more beautiful and totally invigorated.

The icing on the cake? This here blog’s getting it’s own makeover, too. More exclusive Real Weddings, more local talent, more wedding style discoveries, more developing wedding trends, more inspiration from around the wedding universe. You’re gonna love it, we promise.

Make sure you’re in the loop when we launch. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the big announcement!

Ivory Atelier Ines di Santo Trunk Show

Have you been in to Ivory Bridal Atelier yet? If not, here’s a little incentive: This Friday and Saturday, Houston’s newest bridal salon is hosting an Ines di Santo trunk show. Gowns from the Italian-born, Toronto-based designer’s spring 2011 collection will be the highlight, and you can expect the warm, attentive, expert service for which Ivory Bridal Atelier is fast developing a rep among in-the-know Houston brides. Plus, there’s the salon itself, which is so darn lovely, it’s ridiculous. We absolutely adore the big, beautiful dressing suites and sophisticated, intimate furnishings. And, of course, the Champagne.

Appointments for this exclusive two-day show will fill fast, so make yours now

Ivory Atelier Ines di Santo Trunk Show

And while you’re at it, you might want to schedule a consultation at Brickhouse Bridal, which will be showing Simone Carvalli, also on Friday and Saturday, or at Weddings by Debbie which has Eve of Milady/Amalia Carrara, same days.

Each trunk show offers a different discount—check with each salon for details. Happy shopping!

I Do! Bridal Soiree 2011I Do! Bridal Soiree Tablescapes

Susie’s Cakes & Confections (left); iCatching Events (right)

More than 1,000 attendees. Over 80 vendors. Five full hours of FAB-U-LOUS. We’ll be doing complete show coverage a little further down the road, with photos, video, the whole shebang. But for now, we wanted to take a sec to shine the spotlight on some of your (and our) favorite highlights of this past Sunday’s absolutely spectacular I Do! Bridal Soiree @ The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa.

First off, how about those tablescapes? Sparkle, shimmer & bling are the thing for 2011 wedding reception tables, as radiantly evidenced by our vendors’ magnificent wedding table displays, which featured tons of crystals, blow-glass orbs and jewel accents. And how about that high overhead? We’re talking beautiful suspended floral displays and centerpieces (which, incidentally, are great for letting guests talk to each other across the table without sight obstructions). We saw you practically swooning at the masses of roses (the one bloom that never goes out style), and the brilliant palettes of red, pink and oh-so-popular purple.

When you weren’t chatting with vendors, we spotted you sipping refreshing Pimms cocktails and nibbling sinfully delicious (and simply adorable) French macaroons. And how about those awesome sliders and savory-sweet chicken biscuits? So yummy! It’s no wonder The Houstonian’s fabulously talented catering department recommends serving diminutive comfort snacks like these as a late-night treat at your reception.

As for that fashion show…gorgeous, right? We’ll soon have a rundown of the runway’s most coveted looks, but for now, two words: convertible gown. As in, one amazing dress that goes from ceremony-elegant to celebration-sexy. As in, pretty much perfect.

Whether these highlights remind you of Sunday’s splendor…or make you wish you’d attended, we hope they’ll make you smile. Be sure to subscribe to the Houston Wedding Blog and the Weddings in Houston Wedding Buzz for complete I Do! coverage along with advice on how to incorporate the divine design ideas featured at the soiree into your own very, very special day.

To Do This Week: Be On TV!

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Mother of the Bride Fashion

Your wedding day will be your moment in the spotlight. But you may be able to score a little TV coverage before that!

The producers of ABC’s hit “Dancing With the Stars” are filming a brand-new, “upscale” reality show at Houston’s own T Carolyn Fashions this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 7-9), and they’re looking for mothers and daughters to participate. For those of you who aren’t familiar with T Carolyn, it is where Houston’s (and many of the entire country’s) most fashionable mothers-of-the-bride (and groom) go to find the perfect dress or ensemble to wear for their daughter’s (or son’s) big day.

To be eligible to participate in the filming, brides MUST accompany their mothers. Dancing, however, is not required. And just so you know, T Carolyn will be open for regular business during filming dates.

For information, call 281.440.4696 or e-mail.
