WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON SPRING 2015 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE
Liz & Vinnie ~ March 22, 2014
Pediatric cardiology fellow Liz met Vinnie, an applications engineer, at a bar on St. Patricks’s Day, when neither was out searching for love: “We both had gone out in our rattiest clothes, ready to just have fun with our friends,” Liz recounts. In the tradition of their first encounter, Vinnie’s proposal, offered to Liz at the top of a mountain they had just hiked in the pouring rain, was less than glamorous affair. But their wedding at Discovery Green’s The Grove made up for all that, done up as it was in gold, glitter and blush, against a backdrop of chic, sleek cream and navy. For her special day, Liz wore not one, but three knockout gowns, including a shimmering vintage halter-neck sheath with a stunning draped back. And a very special day it was for the bride and for her mother, whose recent kidney transplant meant that she could fully enjoy the festivities. “I thank God every day fort the selfless gift of organ donors,” says the grateful-and gorgeous-bride.

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE
Iris and James ~ March 8, 2014
Who says cheap wings and 99-cent margaritas can’t possibly lead to true love? Neither Iris nor James, that’s for sure. The lovebirds, who met randomly at a Pasadena, Texas, Western bar, “hung out all night that night, and have been hanging ever since,” Iris says. In 2012, James surprised Iris at her “Ugly Christmas Sweater” graduation party, bearing a piñata filled with faux diamonds and ring pops. “I finally got to take my blindfold off, and James went down on his knee and proposed to me in front of everyone,” Iris recalls. “And, of course, tears, happiness and Facebook posts ensued.” The couple’s vintage-elegant wedding, with its shades of coral, ivory and gray, and its touches of burlap and lace, was the perfect expression of their tastes, and their love. Iris says she’ll never forget “running through the corridor of ribbon wands during our final send-off.”

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE
Jordan and Moises ~ March 15, 2014
“Hook, line and sinker,” is how Jordan describes her feeling about Moises when the then-Sigma-Chi-president texted her, “I like your boots,” following the fraternity-chapter meeting where the two first met working on a philanthropic project. While Moises proposed in Paris, the couple’s wedding was Tex-Mex all the way, from their Houston Livestock Show rehearsal dinner to their menu of chips-and-queso, tamales and plantain-crusted chicken, to the custom Texas-flag boots the bride wore at her reception—which took place, incidentally, at her family’s vast horse ranch, where Jordan spent much of her youth. With their wedding, she adds, she and Moises strove for “a tasteful balance between our down-to-earth roots and our love for rich color and bold decor—basically the chicest darn ranch shindig this cowgirl has ever seen!”

Today we’re taking a tiny little break from beautiful wedding and bridal inspiration to recognize the achievements of someone who inspires US: our very own Radhika Day, publisher of Weddings in Houston magazine. Now, y’all may not be familiar with NACE, aka the National Association of Catering Executives, but for those of us who work in the world of weddings and events, NACE is a very big deal. And last month, the Houston chapter of NACE honored Radhika with a very big award—Networker of the Year—announced at the NACE Houston annual awards. We’re thrilled for Radhika—but, we’ve gotta say, not a bit surprised. As publisher of Weddings in Houston, Radhika works tirelessly on behalf of our magazine and our clients, a number of whom, we’re delighted to say, ALSO received NACE awards in December. We’re so grateful to have her steering our ship, and so proud of her NACE award. Please join us in wishing her a big ol’ CONGRATULATIONS!
Oh—and by the way, we should mention that for its glitzy annual awards ceremony honoring the best in the event biz, NACE chose the Royal Sonesta Houston Hotel…which just happens to be the very same gorgeous hotel where we will be hosting the I Do! Bridal Soiree on Sunday, Jan. 27. Haven’t reserved your pre-sale tix yet? There’s still time!
Check out photos of a few proud NACE Houston award winners, courtesy of the very talented David Jones of D. Jones Photography (who just happens to be one of the best wedding photographers in the biz, wouldn’t ya know?).
