The day after he met Jennifer at an Armadillo Palace show in 2005, Mitchell told his mom, “I met my future wife last night.” And dang if he wasn’t RIGHT. Six years to the day they started dating, the pair tied the knot, with a ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral followed by a high-energy, high-style reception at the ultra-cool Majestic Metro—the groom’s venue choice, incidentally, which he picked immediately upon spotting it in the pages of Weddings in Houston (if you heard the “toot-toot,” that was our own horn, btw).
There are so many things we love about this wedding, but let’s just start with bride Jennifer, who left those long, flowing locks down for her big day…so pretty! Especially with her Kenneth Pool gown from Mia Bridal Couture and delectable blue Manolo Blahnik shoes, dontcha think? We’ve also saved a swoon or two for those gorgeous purple-pink-and-peacock-feather florals by Darryl & Co., and that to-die-for dessert table—a perfect accompaniment to the couple’s Who Made the Cake cake. “I purchased the cake stands from a company called Tiers of Joy,” Jennifer told us. “I wanted that romantic look, but with lots of bling, so when I saw these I HAD to buy them!!” Yes, you did, Jennifer.
And if you’re thinking that adorable flower girl’s orchid purse looks familiar, you’re right.
Big thanks to photographer Chris Wineinger for his great pics of this fabulous, fun-filled wedding. As for Mitchell, who apparently still has Jennifer’s number in his phone under “future wife,” you may want to edit that contact, mister. Or not. It is pretty darn cute. Congrats, you two, and happiest wishes to you!
At the New York bridal market a scant couple of weeks ago, Amsale Aberra showed off her extravagant side once again with the fall 2011 Kenneth Pool collection. We’re talking miles of tulle, acres of exquisite crystal embroidery, and those head-turning, show-stopping, figure-hugging silhouettes that are the hallmarks of a Kenneth Pool creation.
Everything that’s amazing about Kenneth Pool gowns will be on display this Friday and Saturday at Mia Bridal Couture, along with expert consulting advice direct from the design house, at an ultra-exclusive trunk show. If you’re on the hunt for a truly unforgettable gown, don’t miss this limited opportunity—and the awesome 15% discount that comes with it!

We always knew the print version of Weddings in Houston magazine was a thing of exceptional beauty. And now Graphic Design USA, the country’s leading publication for design professionals, has acknowledged it, too. GDUSA just honored Weddings in Houston with a prestigious American Graphic Design Award in the “Cover Series” category. Congratulations WIH!
The award recognizes the fabulous January 2010 cover, shot at Hotel Sorella CITYCENTRE and featuring a super-chic model in a glorious Oscar de la Renta ballgown with a custom-made floral handbag from Darryl & Co, and the equally divine July 2010 cover, featuring an ethereal bride in a one-shoulder Augusta Jones gown, set in a “midsummer night’s dream”-like forest.

Ever dream of having your favorite band play your wedding? One Norwegian couple’s fan fantasy came true. Groom Njal proposed to bride Elin at a Band of Horses show in Oslo earlier this year. So when the couple heard that the South Carolina-based indie band was going to be heading back to Norway for a music festival in Tromso, their home town, right around the time of their September wedding, naturally they sent fan mail to tell the band their romantic tale. And rather unnaturally, the band showed up at the wedding ceremony to surprise the couple with a beautiful rendition of their soulful “Marry Song.” OMG. Check out the vid. You can see the bride wipe a tear from her eye as she takes it all in!
Maybe your taste runs more toward country crooners or perhaps you’re gaga for Gaga. Maybe you imagine your fave singer soloing as you sashay down the aisle—or maybe you envision your beloved band taking to the stage to rock the reception.
Drop a comment here and let us know your wedding music fantasy, Houston bride. Who knows? It just may come true. Ask Elin and Njal. And congrats, you two!
You’ve read his books, seen his awesome talent on display at events for J. Lo, Elton John and Tommy Hilfiger. You’ve fawned over him on Oprah and Tyra, and nodded empathetically at his sage advice on “My Fair Wedding.” And now you can slip into WOW gowns from his brand new bridal couture line, David Tutera by Faviana, when it makes its Houston debut at Maison de Mode this Friday through Sunday.
Bearing the tag line “Inspired by the red carpet, worn on the white carpet,” Tutera’s high-drama gowns are named for classic and current stars like Gwyneth, Audrey, Cameron and Marilyn. A few styles, like the fabulous, figure-hugging, floral-accented Eva, convert into shorter dresses for post-ceremony partying. So convenient!
Make sure to make your appointment now. This show is gonna be hotter than Houston in July. See you there!
