WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON Spring 2015 | Real Wedding Feature

Barbara & Billy ~ August 30, 2014

A college meet-cute. A wintry Central Park down-on-one-knee-in-the-snow proposal. A magnificent 225-guest wedding so celebratory that attendees couldn’t wait to start dancing and took to the floor during dinner! Could Barbara and Billy’s nuptial story be any more romantic? The pair’s Petroleum Club wedding had all the makings of an unforgettable evening, from the ivory, gray and gold palette, to the shrimp-cocktail-and-filet-mignon dinner, to the spectacular “statement” cake from famed baker Nadine Moon. Yet it was the feeling of being surrounded by family and friends, and “hosted by the most wonderful parents anyone could have,” that the bride says will forever be her greatest memory of her most special day.

Intimate Petroleum Club Wedding by Steve Lee Weddings

While “iPhone meets Frank Sinatra” might not seem like your typical wedding theme, Amy and Robbie’s Houston nuptial celebration was anything but your typical wedding. The couple, who met at work and got engaged in the moments after the groom disembarked from a plane after traveling 30-plus hours, wanted their spring wedding to have “modern, clean lines” and a “jazzy, cool feel,” Amy says. Hinging on a palette of deep purple, silver, white and black, they infused the vintage-elegant Petroleum Club of Houston with a sleek, clubby feel—the perfect environment in which to enjoy excellent food and dancing with an intimate group of fewer than 90 close friends and family members. And the bride’s Martina Liana gown (accented with the silver ribbon sash) and purple-calla bouquet? Perfection. Cheers to the exceptionally talented Steve Lee for the fabulous photos of this retro-meets-right-now wedding.

Pink and Navy Petroleum Club of Houston Wedding

A wedding ceremony is a dramatic occasion—and the vista of downtown Houston, visible via the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Petroleum Club of Houston’s 43rd-floor Discovery Room, is the perfect backdrop for such a scene. Just ask Houston bride Annie, who said her vows to Antonio there, then danced up a storm with 280 friends and family members in celebration of her blessed union. Sweet couple, beautiful wedding, what more could one ask for? Oh—and cheers to Love Lee Photography for the lovely photography

Elegant Ivory and Black Petroleum Club Wedding

How many couples can say they met hurling a ball at one another on the deck of a ginormous floating resort? At least one that we know of: Ashley and Mark. After that fateful dodgeball game on the 2009 cruise where the pair met, they endured a long-distance relationship (she’s from Houston, he’s from California) for almost two years until Mark moved to Houston. He proposed in the bedroom of the house they’d just purchased—the beginning of a beautiful life together in their new shared home. The couple’s classic Petroleum Club wedding celebration featured a sophisticated palette of ivory and black with plenty of candlelight, champagne and high-energy dancing to a grand live band. Check out Mia Bella Photography’s fine photos here, and join us in wishing Ashley and Mark a lifetime of love together.

Petroleum Club Wedding by SB Image Studios

They fell in love over barbecued squirrel… Now THAT’S a sentence you don’t hear every day. But it’s the one that describes the blossoming relationship between Maria and Jarrod, who met at a backyard party and instantly connected when the groom-to-be fed his future bride a tasty bite of the grilled critter he’d shot just moments earlier. Ah, romance. Three years after their barbecue bonding, the pair wed in a decidedly more upscale celebration, starting with a formal ceremony at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, filled with music—from a rousing choral performance to a live brass quintet playing the Trumpet Voluntary for the bride’s processional. To marry her squirrel-hunting beau, bride Maria wore a La Sposa dress she customized herself: “My mother and I, along with help from friends and family, sewed Swarovski crystals and pearl beads all throughout my lace and tulle gown, and cathedral-length train. It took us six months to complete.” On top of that, “I also hand made the bridesmaids’ jewelry and completely designed the cake, by drawing and submitting my design for Edible Designs by Jessie to make.” Now that’s our kind of DIY. The couple’s 300-guest reception at the beautiful Petroleum Club of Houston treated celebrants to a sit-down dinner, the aforementioned cake, and lots of dancing, after which Maria and Jarrod departed by—what else—a horse-drawn carriage. The night was truly magical—all thanks to our many supportive and loving guests,” the grateful (and gracious) bride says. Our thanks to SB Image Studios for sharing photos of this splendid Houston wedding—and our happiest wishes to the lovely couple!
