Moroccan Theme Sangeet and Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa Wedding with Moroccan, Vintage and Rustic-Chic Themes

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

On the 5th anniversary of the beginning of their courtship, Ronak took Zena to Sonoma, Calif., to celebrate—and, unbeknownst to her—to propose. “During our visit to Pride Vineyard, he had a picnic set up with my favorite foods and during the picnic gave me a scrapbook documenting our five years together. The final page said ‘Happily Ever After?’ Once I got to that page, he got down on one knee and proposed. We spent the rest of the weekend at a wonderful resort in Napa Valley celebrating.” The celebrating continued at the couple’s multi-day Indian wedding, which kicked off with a mehndi party, followed by a Moroccan-theme sangeet at the St. Regis Hotel, and, finally a vintage-theme ceremony with a moss-covered, floral-draped altar, and lushly floral rustic-chic reception, both at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. Bride Zena’s favorite moment? “Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing how nervous he was.” Happiest wishes to the lovely couple, and big thanks to Brooklyn, N.Y.-based J’Adore Love Photography for sharing beautiful images of this spectacular celebration.

Houstonian Hotel Wedding With Four-Legged Best Man by Adam Nyholt Photographer

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

While “the dog did it” is a legendarily convenient excuse for all kinds of stuff, in the case of Andrew’s proposal to Lauren…the dog really did! “Andrew had a tag made that on one side said, ‘I love you,’ and on the other, ‘Will you marry me?’ He hung the tag and the ring on our dog Niko’s collar. I noticed it immediately and though it was some sort of joke. It was perfect! And thankfully it was not a joke,” the bride recounts. For the couple’s 150-guest wedding at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, Lauren opted for white with silver accents as her palette, “which I think is very simple yet extremely sophisticated and elegant,” she says. “It was very important to us that everyone there was a person that touched our lives in some way. That included having our dog there as the best man. The whole night was absolutely amazing. Andrew and I never left the dance floor!” We wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness, and send a shout-out to super-talented photographer Adam Nyholt for the beautiful images.

White and Ivory Ballroom Wedding by 1Cinema Productions

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

To transform a hotel ballroom into a “heavenly setting,” bride Dara opted for lush, romantic draping throughout the room. And we are in love with the result. We also adore how the reception’s billowy, beautiful surroundings get a lovely, contemporary contrast from sleek, asymmetrical centerpieces of white calla lilies, orchids, hydrangea and ranunculus, on alternating round and square tables, courtesy Decor One. But mostly we love the love on Dara and Ammar’s faces in their wedding photos from 1Cinema Productions. So much excitement, so much joy, so much FUN. We wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness—congratulations!

Classic Pink & White Country Club Wedding with Art Deco Inspiration

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

Since her grandparents wed, everyone in Claudia’s family has married at her family’s church—St. Anne Catholic Church—and celebrated their nuptials at River Oaks Country Club. And when it came time for Claudia to be joined in blessed union with her beloved Erik, the bride carried on the tradition in gracious and gorgeous style, with help from planner Jo Ann Schwartz Woodward of Schwartz & Woodward. Carrying a bouquet accented with a green crystal rosary that had been blessed by Pope John Paul II—a gift from the groom—as well as an heirloom Art Deco brooch and an antique monogrammed handkerchief, Claudia said, “I do,” to Erik, and he to his bride, in the presence of more than 400 family members and friends. A mix of light-pink damask and sheer-satin-stripe soft-white tablecloths from Elegant Beginnings set a romantic, feminine tone for the reception, with its elegant, Art Deco decor scheme. Claudia’s Chanel-inspired Who Made The Cake cake, featuring a pale-pink bow, pearl accents and an Art Deco brooch? Perhaps one of our favorites, ever! We are so happy for this lovely, loving Houston couple, and so thankful to photographer Tomas Ramos for his wonderful photos of this opulent, elegant wedding.

Southwestern Rustic-Chic Wedding at The Parador by Sarah McKenzie Photography

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

For their October wedding at The Parador, Christina and Paul created a theme based on where they came from and where they’d been. In the bride’s words, “Our wedding was inspired by our travels, and each of our cultures and favorite destinations was reflected throughout some part of our day.” Set on the gorgeous grounds of The Parador, a circa-1928 Texas Historical Landmark that blends Mediterranean style with Byzantine detail, the couple’s wedding featured soft-hued succulents (even atop the lovely white wedding cake—perfect!), tables named for the couple’s many travel destinations, and culinary delights including green-chile risotto in honor of Paul’s home state of New Mexico. The bride’s delicate mantilla veil, meanwhile, spoke to her Mexican heritage. Despite the fact that both Christina and Paul are deaf, the pair made music a major part of their celebration, starting with a string-quartet processional of the Beatles’ “In My Life.” For their reception entrance, Christina and Paul chose the Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “to honor my late father and his favorite group,” the bride says. We are hopelessly in love with Sarah McKenzie’s timeless photos of this truly wonderful wedding. Congratulations, Christina and Paul, and thank you so much for sharing your special day!

Enchanted Garden Wedding at the St. Regis Hotel

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Just because he made fun of her for buying the classic Britney Spears film “Crossroads” did not mean Jason thought any less of Kristen. Quite the contrary. After ringing up Kristen’s purchase at the Austin store where the two first encountered each other in 2007, Kristen gave cutie cashier Jason her number. “The three requisite days later, he called!” she recounts happily. This year, the couple wed in a Catholic ceremony—Kristen radiant in her Anne Barge gown from Ivory Bridal Atelier, and makeup by The Perfect Face—followed by a stunning celebration in the Astor Ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel. “Jason and I were originally considering a small destination wedding in Newport Coast, Calif., but we quickly determined that we really wanted to get married in Houston, the city where we both had lived practically our entire lives”—all the better, she says, to “spend this most special of evenings with our closest family and friends.” Kristen envisioned her reception as “a space that would sweep you away to a ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’-esque garden.” And with the help of lush white flowers, Manzanita trees, and dramatic lighting from Bright Star Productions, her wedding vision became a reality for all to enjoy. We love how the couple, both UT alums, paid tribute to their alma mater in food (a super-cool groom’s cake) and drink (“a burnt-orange version of our favorite lemon-drop martini,” notes the bride). Fabulous photos from Table4 Photography tell the visual tale of this beautiful Houston wedding. We hope you’ll let us know what you think— and, of course, join us in wishing Kristen and Jason a lifetime of happiness!

Classic Wedding with a Charitable Heart by Lindsay Elizabeth Photography

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

“When Michael proposed, we started wondering where to find the right venue for us,” recounts Houston bride Carolyn. “Fortunately we thought about the Brookwood Community, a wonderful residential organization right outside of Katy, where adults with disabilities can thrive and learn to contribute meaningfully. My mother and I had often eaten in the café there and we loved to volunteer with the organization.” Carolyn explains that the Brookwood Community had only recently started hosting weddings—and she was thrilled to be among the first to take advantage of the community’s “beautiful worship center” and lovely, sunlight-filled café space. In her diaphanous Watters gown from Mia Bridal Couture, Carolyn made her wedding dreams come true, with a timeless summer celebration filled with personal photos, handmade signs and touches of blue, purple and green. The best part? “The profits from the wedding went to a scholarship fund to help residents live at the Brookwood Community. We were so grateful to have a wedding that benefitted a cause—and we enjoyed that we didn’t compromise on anything to host it there!” Congratulations, and happiest wishes to Carolyn and Michael. And big thanks to Lindsay Elizabeth Photography for the lovely, lovely photos!

Pretty Minute Maid Park Wedding by J. Cogliandro Photography

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

She was the girl, he told a friend, he “thought he could never get.” He was the guy who won her heart with a turkey-and-green-olive sandwich (“It was genius!” she says). When the two longtime lovebirds finally made it official, Union Station at Houston Astros’ home Minute Maid Park was the perfect location for “obsessed” sports fan Lindsay and her equally enthusiastic groom Michael. Floral firm Events in Bloom filled the grand, historic space with hanging greenery and glowing candles, complemented the room’s stately columns, uplit in warm shades of amber. Extra kudos to Nadine Moon of Who Made the Cake…who made a cake we can NOT stop talking about, complete with a bottom layer in a subtle white-on-white interpretation of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpiece “The Starry Night”—“my favorite art piece of all time,” Lindsay says. Huge thanks to international-award-winning J. Cogliandro Photography for superb pix of this wonderful wedding…and warmest wishes to the newlyweds!

Black and White (and Stylish All Over) Wedding by Alyse French

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Rebekah and Matthew’s “you’d better watch what you say” story is one with a very happy ending. Check this out: These two Houston singles happened to talk to the same mutual friend on the same day, and both happened to mention they were bored. A light bulb flashed above the aforementioned mutual friend’s head, and she pretty much insisted that the two alleviate their shared ennui by having dinner together. Just a little over a year later, the pair promised themselves to one another in a moving (and exceptionally chic) wedding at Hotel Derek. Bride Rebekah, whose personal fashion blog we LOVE, btw, looked absolutely lovely in her Lela Rose gown from Ivory Bridal Atelier, and absolutely comfy in those cute Tory Burch flats. As for her bridesmaids in their mix-and-match frocks, well, let’s just say they are a perfect testimonial for giving your ’maids a color (in this case, black) and then just letting them run with it. Gorgeous. Ditto the elegantly understated floral arrangements by Tres’ Bloom and the divine stacked-square Who Made the Cake cake. We hope you enjoy these photos from Alyse French Photography as much as we did. And we know you’ll join us in wishing Rebekah and Matthew a lifetime of happiness!

Classic Houstonian Hotel Wedding by Nicole Chatham Photography

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

There’s something delightful about the idea of falling in love at your sweatiest, grittiest, most makeup-less best. That’s exactly what happened to Houston bride Christina, whose personal trainer Bart became her husband one day this past May. The couple’s Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa wedding, with its rose-petal-strewn garden ceremony and ballroom reception is the very essence of refined Southern beauty mixed with down-home revelry—in Christina’s words, “a classic, elegant, black-tie event…that was fun!” But amid all the splendor of Blooming Gallery’s creamy rose-and-hydrangea arrangements and twinkling crystal candelabra, all the music and lively Bright Star Productions lighting, nothing shone more radiantly than the bride’s absolutely amazing smile and irresistible dimples (we’re certain Bart would agree). Cheers to Nicole Chatham for her wonderful photos of this wonderful Houston wedding. And our happiest wishes to the happy couple!
