In the Western tradition, white is and will ever be the color of weddings. But there’s white, and then there’s white-on-not-quite-white. We tend to be fans of the latter. Here’s an idea: Start with a glorious white wedding dress (like the ridiculously romantic Sierra, below, from Amsale’s Blue Label Collection). Add hints of cream, soft green, palest yellow or petal pink. Toss in a touch of gold shimmer or silver sparkle. Arrange lovingly with a focus on texture and classic elegance. And there you have it–white done right.

We know a gal who swears that as a toddler she went through a phase where she’d only eat white food. Cottage cheese, rice, white bread. That sort of thing. Now that she’s all grown up, our formerly finicky friend has expanded her culinary tastes exponentially. Thank goodness, too. Because white food is blah food.
Except when it’s dessert. Wedding dessert, in particular. Picture a post-meal sweets spread, filled with exquisite goodies in different wedding-white shades from snow to cream, beckoning guests to dig in. Pretty, right? Especially when displayed on lovely, vintage-inspired tiered dessert trays and cake plates like these. Have your cake…and eat lots of other yummy desserts, too, we say!

What could be more perfect than a dreamy, dewy, snow-white wedding bouquet? It’s the perfect accompaniment to a white bridal gown, and white is never going to look dated or misguided when you’re mooning over wedding photos with your kids (and theirs) decades down the line.
But those tight, white bundles of perfectly uniform blooms all perfectly tied are so perfectly…perfect. Maybe too perfect. How about introducing a little contrast to kick up the white a notch? How about adding a feathery touch or a flutter of wings? How about checking out these examples of gorgeous white (but not quite) bridal bouquets we’ve picked just for you?

Black-centered anemones, fragrant eucalyptus and pops of palest pink and yellow give this loosely arranged bouquet a beautifully organic feel.

How can you not love this whimsical white bouquet—those green-striped orchids and graceful fern fronds, those joyful butterflies and spotted brown feathers? Thanks to the always-delightful Austin Wedding Blog for sharing this one!

And speaking of feathers, here’s a completely different way to use them in your white bouquet. Very glamorous, but somehow sweet and demure at the same time.

Another take on the white-offset-by-black theme. Imagine this sophisticated bouquet paired with a black ribbon belt, or black bridesmaids’ dresses. So chic!

Of course, sometimes less is more. Especially in the case of simply tied, naturally sculptural white calla lilies (like these from Chicago’s Fleur), and nuthin’ else. Fifty years from now, the image of these will resonate as elegantly as the real thing does today.

Their client list—Colin Cowie Lifestyle, Versace, Bergdorf Goodman, Serena Bass, etc.—reads like a who’s who of arbiters of style and sophistication. They’ve provided spectacular props and furniture for everything from Hollywood film shoots to high-end social affairs. And now New York’s famed Taylor Creative Props has launched Taylor Creative Weddings—a special collection of furnishings, accessories and décor, along with design consultation services, tailored (if you’ll pardon the pun) just for weddings. Perhaps even YOUR wedding, Houston bride.

Taylor Creative has a distinctly modern aesthetic, marked by architectural edge, mid-century modularity, plenty of glass and chrome, and lots of sleek, bright white. But when paired with beautiful lighting and floral, these edgy pieces soften gorgeously, and evoke an atmosphere of sophisticated femininity and romance that makes us swoon.

Our favorite pieces include the Victoria Pattern Ghost Chair (especially when paired with the patterned Cube Table ), the tufted white Windsor Collection and the illuminated Plexi Bar. And how about those fabulous Glo Balls for an evening al fresco reception?

Unfortunately, Taylor Creative does not warehouse items in Houston—BUT, they will send whatever you want via truck from New York (for the right price, of course). For the rest of us, the Taylor Creative Weddings’ site is a source of inspiration and ideas, and a GREAT resource to share with our phenomenally talented Houston wedding consultants, rental companies, florists or décor providers.
